What Is Personal Care

Personal Care is a Missouri Medicaid state plan service funded through MO HealthNet that helps individuals who need hands-on assistance with daily personal activities remain safely at home. Unlike some Medicaid waiver programs there is no waitlist for Personal Care. Anyone who meets the eligibility requirements is entitled to receive services.

A trained personal care aide visits the home on a scheduled basis and provides direct assistance with the tasks that are hardest to manage alone.

What Personal Care Includes

Personal Care services focus on the physical and personal needs of the individual. This includes assistance with bathing, dressing and grooming, personal hygiene, toileting, mobility and transfers and medication reminders. The care plan is built around what each person actually needs rather than a fixed package.

Who Qualifies

To receive Personal Care services through Missouri Medicaid the individual must be enrolled in MO HealthNet and meet functional eligibility requirements.
